ACS Job Opening in Atlanta


Position Description
Title: Director/Senior Research Specialist, Economic and Health Policy Research 
Department: Intramural Research, National Home Office, American Cancer Society
Reports to: Managing Director, Economic and Health Policy Research

 1.      JOB SUMMARY: Participate in both self-initiated and collaborative research projects focusing on economic and health policy research relevant for tobacco control and/or other unhealthy behavior related to cancer such as alcohol abuse, lack of physical activity or having unhealthy weight. Publish research papers and support research capacity building in low-resource countries. Disseminate and promote the research results both internal and external audience. Collaborate on public health research projects with the staff of the Intramural Research Department, and with external collaborators. Support the VP of the Economic and Health Policy Research (the Program) in day-to-day management of junior research staff and external research collaborators. Represent ACS and the Program at conferences and meetings, both domestic and international.  

 

2.      MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:  Analyzing data and developing original research publications relevant for developing public health policies, both in the US and in low- and middle-income countries
  • Manage junior research staff, research interns and relationship with external collaborators.
  • Support the development of research capacity in low- and middle-income countries
  • Maintain and facilitate communications among internal and external research  collaborators
  • Manage database supporting the economic and public health research efforts
  • Represent the Program at conferences and meetings
  • Support the VP and be familiar with the day-to-day operations of the Program
  • Understand and support the overall ACS mission related to cancer control, tobacco control and public health policies in general both in the US and globally
  • Promote collaboration within ACS, with a particular focus on the Intramural Research Department  and the Global Health Department
  • Perform other duties as needed for the Program
3.      KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
PhD in Economics of Health Behavior, Public Policy Analysis or Public Health
  • Research experience and strong publishing record
  • Excellent communication skills, diplomatic sensitivity, relationship builder
  • Project management experience
  • Capability to work independently
  • Experience working in cross-cultural or international settings
